A message from AFMS Theatre: Did you know that theatre is so much more than acting, singing, and dancing? It can include props, set building, lighting, sound, directing, publicity, makeup, and costumes! We hope that you will consider becoming a part of our AFMS Theatre community! About me: Hello Chargers! I'm excited to welcome you to the Theatre program at Apex Friendship Middle School. I am thrilled to be starting my 4th year teaching in this vibrant and creative community.
Prior to starting the Drama program for AFMS, I was director of theatre for 6 years at Ligon GT Magnet Middle School and previously taught theatre in Pennsylvania for 15 years. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in acting from Messiah University and a Master of Fine Arts in directing from Temple University. My productions have been invited to the New York International Fringe Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. I was a recipient of a 2018 NC Theatre Conference Award for Outstanding Direction for The Outsiders, and my drama program was honored with the City of Raleigh Fred Fletcher 2019 Volunteer Award.
I love sharing my enthusiasm for travel and global learning through theatre arts. Growing up in Hong Kong, I was fortunate at an early age to travel with my family and learn about others cultures. As an educator, I strive to develop curiosity and engagement, creativity, team collaboration, and an understanding of other cultures and history through the context of theatre education. I look forward to helping your child develop confidence in their artistic pursuits.
In my free time, my husband and children enjoy attending school events, performances at DPAC, watching Premier League games, and supporting local businesses. Chargers, thank you for joining me in support of growing an excellent Drama Program.
